Dr. Bruno was the co-director of the Veterinary Acupuncture Division of the National Acupuncture Association that introduced animal acupuncture into the United States for the first time in 1972.
In 1973 Dr. Bruno, with co-director Dr. John Ottaviano and several veterinarians, created the National Association of Veterinary Acupuncture (NAVA).
In 1975, members of NAVA, working with other veterinarians who were beginning to explore acupuncture, created the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society (IVAS).
